Our Story

We are a proud Papua New Guinean owned business located in Brisbane, Australia. 

Our story began when our family relocated from PNG to Brisbane in 2014 and settled into our first house. We were eager to make it feel just like home, however, this was a little harder said than done. Sourcing materials and home accessories that embraced our South Pacific culture proved to be a trying task. As we decorated, there was no sense of connection to our culture or heritage, there was a missing link that we had to mend. With this in mind, Kundu Shell was born.

Established in 2022 and commencing operations in 2023, our aim is to bridge the gap between the World and the Pacific. The word “Kundu”, from the Papuan creole language translates to “drum”. It is a traditional hourglass shaped instrument our people use during ceremonies and special events. “Shell” refers to a hard protective outer case - your house, your home, your haven.

Invoked by our name Kundu Shell, the beating of the drums from the different island nations, sends out sound waves linking the Pacific with the rest of the world.
